This has existed in threads for around a year now, just click on the three dots at the top of your thread and click them - it will create a menu and you can find it at the bottom.

I would recommend grabbing the first 500, and go to the page where the 501 post would begin, going to that page in the DM, and trying the export again. I am not sure what the process will do, because the other option I can suggest is deleting those posts you have saved now (not the first one), and running that export again.

What about RTs or World Building Threads? If we bump them will they stay or do I have to recreate them?
In public facing threads, as long as they have activity from some time in 2025, they should be safe. This can be an edit, or a live post.

Hi there everyone!

As we're moving into 2026, there's a number of things that I want to be able to bring to our site.

Part of this is a fresh base to help our server avoid being overloaded with content - We've worked to keep as much content as possible on our site. While it's been a pretty decent set up to now, I want to give some more space for future stories.

With that in mind - it's about time we do a clean up of our space - and this means that I am going to be clearing out content from from the site's founding to the beginning of 2025 - This means postings through December 31st 2024 at 11:59pm ET (I'm using ET as it is my time zone).

I'm going to do this on the first of February, so you have all of the month of January to find your things you want to save, export them, and keep the ones you want!

To Reiterate:

What is happening: Site content clean-up, Items deleted through December 31st, 2024. Public Threads with activity this year will not be touched. All direct messages from before 2025 will be cleared.

When is it happening: 2/1/2026
What you need to do: Save any pre 2025 content you want before the end of the month! Nothing else needs to be done! 🙂

You can do this easily with two major tools!

Conversation Exporting
At the top of your Conversation, you will see the button that says "export direct message". You can click that and enter '500' in the 'post limit' option provided (100 is the default). Once you click 'submit', a page will be formatted with 500 of your posts batched into one page.

Note the 500th item - you can then locate the page it is on, and start your next export from that page, and that 501st item will be the beginning of that page.

Thread Exporting
At the top of your thread, you will see three dots. Clicking on them will create a drop-down menu where 'export thread' is located at the bottom of the list. Similar to the conversation/dm space, you can specify pages, and number of posts per page.

These items can be saved by using the 'print' function on your computer. Ctrl-P, or right click and select it in the dropdown.
Change the 'Printer' dropdown to reflect 'PDF', and you can save the item as a text PDF for your computer

If you have any questions, feel free to pop them in here!
So, even on desktop, I am not able to start exporting at post 501. I pull the first 500, go to the page where 501 would begin, but it always takes me to the very beginning! Any assistance is appreciated!

You should be entering that page number when prompted at the start of the export process.

Heck! Okay. Let me do some research. I think deleting earlier messages may be the best course of action, but let me do some digging to figure out the best steps to take.
I'd prefer it if that didn't happen! Trying to pull our brainstorming session so I can refer to ideas and plot points working towards! XD

Yeah I can do it in batches, but if we're deleting old messages then I'd like to pull them in batches and make sure nothing gets deleted that hasn't been pulled yet

I am unable to save a batch after 500. Is there a way?
I am struggling to find a work around besides saving the first 500, deleting a chunk of them once they are saved, and then running the export again.

If either of you are willing to let me do some testing - add me to your messages/let me know which DMs you are trying to export, and I will see what I am able to do from the position of admin!

Added you to one that isn't currently active just so we can test (already pulled the first 500). If it works, I can add you to one that is active! 🙂

Thank you!

I was able to use that as a test to increase the limit - you should now be able to get up to 1000 posts on one page! It looks like the full page was showing for me when I tried exporting that log. Could you try for me ?

Can confirm, was able to export the whole thing.

Is the 1000 limit applicable to all now?

Edit: I see that it is. Thank you!
