  • Hi there Guest! This message is to let you know that leadership is aware there is an error in the posting of badges - that the image links themselves are broken. Rei is working to move the items to a different img host, but it may take a little while for the transition to be complete.

Hey there guys. Sorry to ping you all again after yesterday, but we decided this merited a post of its own.

After some discussion we've decided we're going to do away with the 'Open Roleplays' forum. Why? It's redundant. There's an 'Open' prefix you can assign to posts that go in the Haven, and more often than not what gets posted into the Open RPs forum should be going into the Request Thread forum.

So here's the plan: in 1 week, on February 13th, we'll be deleting the forum and all existing threads in it. We're giving everyone seven days to have their threads moved before then. If you have a post in there you'd like moved, contact one of our staff. Specifically Nevermind, Practical, Dream Weaver, Metal Angel444, or myself (anyone with a blue or red name). The purple-name helpers can pass it along for you if you don't catch any of us online.

Any questions can be directed to this thread, or to my DMs.

Stay excellent, gang.

Actually, I like the idea of an Open Roleplay forum. It's a place where someone can start an RP apart from RPs that have some kind or prior agreement between writers.

Otherwise you get people wandering in, like I experienced recently, with an RP that did not have an "open" tag.

The "open" tag is also useful for Group RPs where someone is willing to have additional people join.

The tag is why it's redundant. If you don't have the tag on and someone joins in anyway then it falls to you to tell them that they can't. There's no reason why someone couldn't just start an open RP in the Haven section, and advertise it accordingly in their RT or on a status update.

Hey, I'm not saying that it isn't redundant putting an open tag on an open rp. I'm just saying if you've got an rp bug and you can't get in touch with someone right away that an Open RP forum is handy.

I find it more annoying when someone puts a RT into a playing forum.

Open RTs are also a good way to gauge if you like the writing style of someone you haven't worked with yet.

But I don't own U.R., just providing my perspective.

We do too. That happens more often than not with the Open RPs forum, and is a large part of why it's going away.

Open RTs are also a good way to gauge if you like the writing style of someone you haven't worked with yet.

This is true. You can still post RPs in the Haven with the Open tag on, just a starter with no plan or targeted partner. There just isn't going to be a space set aside specifically for that. Also, if anyone wants to give a sample of their writing prowess, we have a Writing Sharing section that they can post in.

But I don't own U.R., just providing my perspective.

And I'm honestly really glad that you are. Nev and I love this site, and this isn't a decision we made on a whim. Your feedback is valued, and if enough people make noise for it to stay we'll listen.
